Living Lab for real-world solutions

Launched in 2022, UBC Okanagan’s Campus as a Living Lab (CLL) program provides faculty and staff with a unique platform to incubate, test, and showcase innovative research in real-world settings. These projects are embedded within the campus environment—its buildings, infrastructure, streets, and spaces—or its surrounding communities. Each initiative is co-led by at least one UBC Okanagan faculty member and one operational staff member, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration and meaningful impact in the program’s priority areas.

Clean UBC Okanagan’s Air through Wall-mount Air Filtering Devices

The pioneering project seeks to improve indoor air quality through the use of innovative wall-mounted Aerosol Removing Tapestry (ART) devices. These units effectively reduce harmful airborne particles and pathogens while improving energy efficiency. The project evaluates their performance, with potential applications in diverse settings such as classrooms, homes, and hospitals, extending beyond UBC Okanagan.
