The Food Hub Market started as a pilot during the winter of 2022, as one of a suite of initiatives seeking to address food insecurity at UBC. Research has consistently shown between 30-40% of students are food insecure, which impacts mental, physical and social wellbeing and educational attainment. Universities have an important and multi-faceted role to play in addressing food insecurity on their campuses and the solutions must be systemic and inclusive, in addition to options for immediate relief.

At UBC, the CLL funded Community Food Hub project used a student-driven, research-led approach to prioritizing community needs for provide support services and programs, such as the Food Hub Market.
